I thought I would post about what my beliefs are and how I ended up calling myself a pagan.
Firstly, as mentioned on my profile, I consider myself an eclectic pagan with strong ties to the kemetic faith. I also consider Isis (Aset or Auset is her ancient egyptian name, whereas Isis is her Graeco-Roman name) to be my patron goddess.
I've always been fascinated and addicted to all thing to do with ancient egypt (Tamera) for as long as I can remember. I've watched every documentary, watched every movie based on ancient egypt, read every book and been to as many lectures by professors of egyptology that I could. It wasn't until I was 15 that Isis decided that she wanted to be in my life, whether I liked it or not.
From that age, I started having recurrent dreams about Tamera, with Isis frequently talking to me in my dreams. She ended popping up everywhere I went (especially when I went to the central city library). Right from the beginning, she approached me with the maternal touch I so craved (due to the fact that I have not been in contact with my mother for over 13 years). She nutured me and showed me how to do things.
I became involved with a female-only group in Auckland who mainly did rituals based on ceremonial magick. I even up leaving, as I was frightened with what they were doing. It turned out Isis wanted to me to learn to use magick with care, and also that I was best to be a solitary practitioner of her faith.
Over the years, she has been with me through the thick and thin, telling me when to get my shit together, and also to give praise to things I have achieved.
I've learnt a lot of magick over the years, finetuning my manifestation skills. I've got to the point where I have to be very careful what I think about and what I will. I don't do a lot of spell work, due to the fact I will only do it if I really need to. I find if I do spells, the effect is very powerful. Isis has told me on many occassions this is due to the fact I am able to concentrate my energies effectively.
Isis has also taught me a lot of the magick I know. She is at the moment trying to get me to start learning about using herbs in a more advance way.
At times, Thoth has been with her, as she knows my thirst for knowledge and my addiction to the written word. He has been a guiding force in my studies, and I often call on him for strength during exams and also when doing assignments.
Many people have commented that I have a deep connection with the "mother land"(egypt), which is very true (and also by what I written above).
I also have connections with other goddesses as well, but the connections are not as strong as with Isis. These goddesses are Ishtar, Sulis, Kali, Yemanya, Pele and Bast.
So in the end, how did I end up identifying myself as a pagan? Mainly due to the research I conducted on what I believe in, and my connection with Mother Earth.
